There are
several beaches to explore locally and interesting harbours to visit at Garlieston, where the massive floating Mulberry Harbour
used in the Normandy Landings during World War II was tested, as well as the Isle of Whithorn and Port William.

The local sub-aqua diving club uses the waters around Garlieston and the Isle of Whithorn on a regular basis and the area is full of shipwrecks and many
other interesting features to explore.
Around 10 minutes' drive away is the must-see attraction if you have children, Monreith
Animal World and there are also several golf courses nearby at Monreith (St Medans), Wigtown and Newton Stewart.

Fishing is very popular with access to
local rivers and lochs for salmon and rainbow trout. Sea fishing is also possible from the rocks and by boat which can be
chartered at some harbours.
Whithorn itself hosts an annual mediaeval fayre and a gala.
